On January 20th I held on to my reservations as I watched Barack Obama take the oath; I still needed to see if he could produce as well as he performs. My litmus test for our new president was that within the first 100 days he show concrete steps toward realizing three reversals in our foreign policy:
- Withdrawal from Iraq
- Dismantling of the Missile Defense System
- Normalization of relations with Cuba
Today, the 88th day of his presidency he seems to be well on the way to showing results on all three.

Fidel Castro took power from the despot Batista on 1 January, 1959 – a full fifty years ago. Within one year the Eisenhower administration began the economic embargo of our former Mafia colony. For the past half decade, nine successive administrations have blindly continued that failed policy with the lame excuse that the U.S cannot do business with a dictator; this in spite of our dealings with the Soviets and Chicoms, and even our sponsorship of such despots as Shah Pahlavi, Pinochet, Sadam and even Pol Pot. To illustrate the absurd life span of this bull-headed policy, I have collected some Youtube footage from the year 1959.
